Top 5 [Not-So] Obvious Resume Tips | Submit Resume |
- Conspicuous Contact
Contact information should make it as easy as possible for someone to contact you. It must include an email address, and you should include it on all emails and documents you submit.
- Customize Content
Customize your resume for each job submittal to emphasize the appropriate aspects. Be specific about experience and include version numbers of software to increase your chances of a match.
- Make It Pretty
Use an appropriate resume format. If you think the resume looks ugly or untidy, chances are the recruiter will also. Resumes submitted in the wrong format will frequently be "circular filed" under "doesn't follow directions."
- Skills Summary
On the first page, do not include experience details. Instead, include a skills summary table with skill, years of experience, and optionally competency level (beginner, intermediate, advanced, expert).
This summary is vital because most recruiters review many resumes and are reluctant to hunt for information. If it is not immediately obvious that a candidate
is a match, the recruiter might not make it past the first page.
- Be Honest
You want to convey the impression that you are a competent, trustworthy co-worker that will interact well within a team. Boasting on a resume can show confidence, but avoid pompousness and embellishment. Interviewers will target areas they suspect are exaggerated.
